I am 22 years old; I was placed in foster care at the age of 2 because I was neglected and abused. Between the ages of 3 and 4, I was sent to live with a family member; my grandmother raised me until she passed away when I was 12 years old. Next, I lived with my great aunt until I was 14; it was then that I was placed in foster care because of my disruptive behavior when I was with my family and also when I was in school.
What led me to Hope Forward was losing my job, their organization helped prevent me from being evicted; social services referred me to Hope Forward since I was a former foster child, this was the first step in the process.
They helped me find a place to stay which is where I live now. I am one of their transitional housing recipients so my end with them has not yet come. I have been awarded for having the motivation to continue to strive for bigger and better things. With that being said, I now have my learners’ permit, and have finished driving school which was paid for by Hope Forward. I’m also in the Certified Nursing Assistant course and I have two jobs. Soon I will be ready to transition out into my own place again!
